EQC will need large taxpayer top-up next year, exact amount unknown

A "high level of uncertainty" hangs over how much taxpayer money will be needed to bail out the Earthquake Commission (EQC).
The Government natural disaster insurer's Natural Disaster Fund – effectively its pot of money – is expected to hit zero early next year. It dipped below $200m earlier this year, triggering its Government guarantee for the first time in the organisation's 72-year history.
