Court OKs disciplinary action against CTV engineering firm boss Alan Reay

The engineer whose firm designed the CTV building may yet face disciplinary proceedings after a High Court ruling re-opened a pathway for action.

In a judgment released on Friday, Justice David Collins found that the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand made an error of law when it dropped proceedings against Alan Reay in 2014. Reay resigned his membership of the body, and the institution (now known as Engineering New Zealand) took legal advice that it no longer had jurisdiction to continue the action. The CTV building collapsed in the February 2011 earthquake, killing 115 people.
