A chance to make sure things are better next time

OPINION: Like most in Canterbury, before that early spring morning in 2010, I had never really taken much notice of EQC.
I knew I had paid into it, just as generations had before me, for 65 years. I assumed with such a lead-in time, it was ready for what hit us in 2010 and 2011.
Unfortunately, my experience shows this assumption was wrong, and sadly, speaking to anyone still trying to resolve an earthquake claim after eight years, it's been more stressful than dealing with the earthquakes themselves.
Last week, I got a message from a man asking for help as he had just gone overcap with EQC, with a failed repair. He doesn't know what to do next. A number of us helping people with their claims get messages like this every week, sometimes daily.
