Engineers oppose new government body to regulate their profession

Recent engineering debacles have prompted a revamp of the way engineers are assessed. MBIE wants a new regulator. Engineering NZ argues only most high-risk work need regulation.  

As everybody in Christchurch knows, substandard engineering work can have fatal consequences.

During the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes the six-level CTV building in Madras St pancaked after floors shook loose from their anchors on the walls and columns. The tragedy took 115 lives and caused numerous life-changing injuries.
