Christchurch Earthquake Insurance Tribunal settles first case

Michael Hayward, The Press, Aug 18 2019

The Christchurch Earthquake Insurance Tribunal has settled its first case, less than two months after it was launched.

The tribunal launched in mid-June, aiming to settle long-running insurance disputes. Its decisions are binding and enforceable, but may be appealed to the High Court.

The Press reports at least two cases have had their application to transfer from the High Court to the tribunal opposed by their insurer. In both instances the insurers, IAG and AA Insurance, were unsuccessful.
